May 10, 2013 (newstodate): The effects from Finnair Cargo's opening by March 6, 2013 of its second European hub are showing in the latest statistics from the company.
In April 2013, the company aggregated a total of 12,208 tonnes of cargo, which was a modest increase by 1.3 percent, y-o-y.
While cargo on passenger operations was down 4.7 percent to 9,337 tonnes, cargo carried on freighter operations increased significantly by 28.2 percent, to 2,864 tonnes, securing the growth in March.
Finnair Cargo saw cargo volumes on the Transatlantic passenger flights down by 22.7 percent, y-o-y, to 227 tonnes, and on the Asian routes belly cargo volumes dropped another 7.9 percent to 6,673 tonnes.
The European cargo volumes by Finnair Cargo increased by 16.3 tonnes to 1,945 tonnes.
During January-April 2013, Finnair Cargo lifted a total of 44,257 tonnes of cargo, still down 11.4 percent, y-o-y.
Belly cargo was down 4.6 percent to 35,570 tonnes, while cargo on freighters dropped 32.3 percent to 8,491 tonnes.
The Asian belly cargo loads were down 7.8 percent, to 25,223 tonnes during the four months.
