May 31, 2013 (newstodate): Moldova's government has now passed a resolution on the opening of a tender for privatization of the country's Chisinau International Airport.
The resolution confirms the need for a thorough modernization of the airport's infrastructure in accordance with EU standards within the framework of the EU Common European Aviation Area.
A tender is now expected to be opened to attract international investors capable of undertaking the construction of a new passenger terminal, reconstruction of the runway, new taxiways, a new cargo terminals, an airport hotel and parking facilities.
Currently 100 percent owned by the state, plans are to enter a public-private ownership construction with a new owner to hold management rights for 30-50 years.
In 2012, Chisinau International Airport handled 1.2 mio passengers and 2,800 tonnes of cargo.
