May 29, 2013 (newstodate): Croatia is preparing for construction of a new airport at the Adriatic island of Rab.
According to the existing plans, the airport will have a 1,700 m runway, qualifying as a C3 Category airport.
The construction permit is expected by the end of this year, and the project will be co-funded by the EU.
A tender for preparation of the project documentations has been opened, running til June 19, 2013.
The airport is expected to open up for new tourist streams from Scandinavia, Russia and other markets.
