May 03, 2013 (newstodate): In contrast to many other European airports, Poland's Warsaw Chopin Airport saw a sound increase in cargo volumes in this year's Q1.
A total of 11,164 tonnes was handled at the airport, an increase by 12.9 percent, y-o-y.
Totals included 11,000 tones of international cargo, up 13 percent, y-o-y, and 164 tonnes of domestic cargo, increasing by 8.8 percent.
Imports accounted for 6,600 tonnes of cargo, while export cargo stood at 3,900 tonnes in Q1.
The most important cargo destinations were Cologne (1,900 tonnes), Leipzig (1,600 t), Chicago (700 t), Paris (500 t), New York (500 t).
The largest cargo carriers at Chopin Airport in terms of cargo volumes handled were LOT Polish Airlines (3,400 tonnes), UPS Airlines (2,500 t), European Air Transport (1,600 t), Air Contractors (500 t), and Sprint Air (400 t).
In 2012, Warsaw Chopin Airport handled a total of 45,000 tonnes, roughly the same as in 2011.
