May 15, 2013 (newstodate): In April 2013, cargo volumes through Latvia's Riga Airport took a dip by 63 percent, compared to May 2012.
A total of 2,815 tonnes was handled at the airport, which was in line with volumes in the previous months.
It did not, however, compare to the unique peak at 7,519 tonnes in April 2012 when ISAF started three daily Boeing 747 freighter operations with supplies from Riga in support of the Afghan forces - a frequency that has since been reduced and stabilized.
In April 2013 the airport thus handled 1,403 tonnes of exports and 1,411 tonnes of imports comprising 2,213 tonnes of cargo and 601 tonnes of mail.
During the first four months of this year, Riga Airport has generated a total of 11,065 tonnes of cargo and mail, up 4.8 percent, y-o-y.
