Apr 22, 2013 (newstodate): Russia is mulling plans for wavering import taxes on western-built turboprop aircraft.
The proposal will comprise imports of new aircraft with up to 72 seats by member countries of the Customs Union comprising Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan.
Driving the proposal is the acute need to renew the fleet of ageing turboprop aircraft currently serving the markets, primarily the AN-24 and AN-26 that have long gone out of production while no new Russian aircraft are yet available.
Estimates are that Russian itself has an acute need for some 60 turboprop aircraft like Bombardier Q-400and ATR 72.
