Apr 19, 2013 (newstodate): Having lost control over its Ukrainian handling JV with UIA, Swissport International is determined to fight its cause to the end.
-On April 16, we have taken the case to Ukraine's Court of Appeal, and we are determined to win this business back, says Mark Skinner, Swissport VP Business Development and Projects, Division Europe, Asia, Africa and Middle East.
-What we have seen so far are most questionable decisions by lower court instances in their handling of our case against hostile raider attacks by Ukraine International Airlines.
-And Swissport International is not alone in this matter. We enjoy support from both the Swiss and French embassies in Ukraine that stand united behind us in our efforts to seek justice.
-The highly questionable business practice in Ukraine has also caught the attention in EU circles, and we hope to see action from this side as well putting pressure on Ukraine to reconsider its treatment of foreign investors in the country.
-Swissport International is now excluded from the handling operations at Kiev, and we are aware that this is creasing difficulties for many customers of Swissport Ukraine, with service quality decreasing while several carriers are now forced to perform manual procedures in handling of passengers.
In the meantime, UIA has renamed the disputed handling company.
Instead of Swissport Ukraine, the company is now named Interavia - the name of the handling company before its change into a joint-venture with Swissport in 2006.
