Apr 08, 2013 (newstodate): Expectations are running high for a final conclusion to Serbia's efforts to preserve its ailing carrier, JAT through a close cooperation with the Gulf carrier Etihad.
The CEO of Etihad will reportedly arrive in Belgrade on April 15, 2013, to sign an MoU for strategic cooperation between the two carriers.
Etihad has reportedly been offered a 49 percent stake in JAT over the next five years, with an option for a further five-years prolongation.
If plans are realized, this would pave the way for allocation of more and new aircraft to JAT as well as code-share agreements on both carrier's routes and prospects for more JAT routes in Europe to feed traffic into Etihad's network.
JAT is also hopeful to see Serbia upgrade to Category I by the US FAA, allowing it to finally re-establish direct flights from Belgrade to the USA.
