Apr 15, 2013 (newstodate): Prospects for growth by Slovenia's Ljubljana Airport have been adjusted by a recent report.
In 2012, the airport handled a total of 1.2 mio passengers and 17,000 tonnes of cargo.
The original long term plan made by the airport in 2007 was to increase passenger traffic to 2.2 mio and cargo to 23.3 tonnes by 2015.
Estimates have now been revised to 1.7 mio passenger and 23,000 tonnes of cargo by 2017.
Increasing competition from other airports in the region, especially in nearby Austria and Italy, however, pose a threat to airport's operating results.
Another threat to the airport's continued development is posed by the the troubles encountered by the country's carrier, Adria Airways that accounts for 70 percent of all passenger traffic and 52 percent of the airport's aircraft movements.
