Apr 23, 2013 (newstodate): Boasting the world's third-longest runway, 5,000m, Russia's Ulyanovsk International Airport will undergo reconstruction during a project now decided upon by its owner, Aviastar-SP.
During the project repair works will start in 2014 with construction of a new ATC tower, runway refurbishment, new taxiway infrastructure and new aircraft parking stands.
The airport is primarily used by cargo operators including Polet Airlines and Volga-Dnepr as well as its owner, Aviastar-SP, manufacturer of the AN-124 freighter and TU-204 aircraft.
This year will see launch of flights from the airport to Turkey and Germany, with negotiations for flights to Greece and the UAE progressing.
The coming reconstruction projects will be completed by 2018, according to plans.
