Apr 08, 2013 (newstodate): March 2013 brought little positive news for Finnair Cargo, statistically speaking at least.
A total of 12,227 tonnes of cargo was carried by the airline, a decline by eight percent, y-o-y.
Of the total volume, belly cargo accounted for 9,791 tonnes, down 6.6 percent, and freighter operations contributed 2,398 tonnes, also down 12.7 percent, y-o-y.
With North Atlantic volumes the only exception with 717 tonnes, up three percent, all other markets performed negatively including the crucial Asian marked where Finnair Cargo generated 7,018 tonnes, but down 8.4 percent, y-o-y.
During this year's Q1, Finnair Cargo thus transported 32,049 tonnes, down 15.4 percent, y-o-y, with the Asian traffic down 7.7 percent, y-o-y, to 18,550 tonnes.
Taking effect from April 6, 2013, Finnair Cargo has however launched a new strategy built on the opening of a new European hub at Brussels as well as launching a new freighter schedule warranting new business opportunities and new competitive measures.
