Apr 04, 2013 (newstodate): Ercan International Airport in the de facto Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus will soon see its first non-Turkish airline operator.
The Slovenian carrier Adria Airways is allegedly mulling plans for launch of services from this summer on a new route between Maribor Edvard Rusjan Airport and Ercan International Airport.
If realized, the route would be a win-win situation for both airports as Maribor Edard Rusjan Airport - Slovenia's second largest airport - is also struggling to attract air traffic after having seen passenger volumes and flight offerings dwindling over the past few years.
Maribor Edvard Rusjan Airport is the country's second-largest airport - but devoid of scheduled services.
Similarly, as Ercan International Airport lies in an internationally unrecognized country, its status as an international airport is also unrecognized and the airport codes do not appear in the official IATA and ICAO lists.
