Apr 22, 2013 (newstodate): Israel and the EU have agreed on a new air services agreement opening up the skies between the two markets.
Virtually an open skies-agreement, the parties have agreed to open up for more liberal air traffic between Israel and EU member states, allowing EU carriers to operate new routes and open up new destinations.
The agreement has, however, met with fierce opposition from Israel's aviation unions with members in El Al,Arkia and Israir that have launched a strike against what they consider a threat to Israeli jobs and airlines
