Apr 29, 2013 (newstodate): Is Norway's low-cost carrier Norwegian sniffing at a Polish carrier?
One Polish media is reporting, based on undisclosed sources close to the government, that Norwegian has shown interest in acquiring the Polish carrier LOT that is seeking foreign investors.
The media says that Norwegian has asked for additional information on LOT indicating serious interest in an acquisition.
The two carriers have both ordered delivery of Boeing 787 aircraft, and LOT would bring in an extensive European network to feed traffic into a joint intercontinental traffic.
But - so far only this single Polish media is bringing the news to the market..
According to EU rules, a non-EU investor can only hold a minority stake in a EU-registered carrier, and Norway remains outside the EU.
In the meantime, LOT is to resume flights with the Boeing 787 starting from June 5, 2013, opening with flights from Warsaw to Chicago, and later adding flights to New York, Toronto and Beijing.
So far two Boeing 787 have been delivered, with the third to follow later in the first half of the year.
