Apr 29, 2013 (newstodate): The Lithuanian project for launch of a new carrier, Air Lituanica is obviously running behind schedule.
In February 2013, Simonas Bartkus, Air Lituanica CCO told newstodate that the carrier would announce its route network as well as open up for booking by late April 2013, while flights would be launched from June or July 2013.
The projected carrier's application for an AOC is, however, still being handled by Lithuania's CAA Flight Operations Division that has, however, refused to come up with a closing date, as reported by newstodate earlier this month.
Also the crucial issues of the financial background for Air Lituanica remain unsettled, as inadvertently proved by its restless propagator and initiator, the mayor of Vilnius, Mr Arturas Zuokas.
Returning from a visit to South America during the weekend, Mr Zuokas told Lithuanian reporters that he had managed to establish contact with SA business partners that might be willing to enter as "strategic investors".
Air Lituanica has thus not so far succeeded in establishing a financial basis strong enough to secure the granting of the AOC as one step towards launching the carrier.
