Apr 24, 2013 (newstodate): The Lithuanian carrier Avion Express has phased out its last remaining SAAB 340F aircraft, ending the turboprop era.
Established in 2005 as Nordic Soutions Air Services, the business focus was on operating charter and wet-lease flights on SAAB 340 cargo and passenger aircraft eventually growing to a fleet of four SAAB 340 aircraft operating mostly in Northern Europe for clients such as TNT and Royal Mail.
In 2008 the company was rebranded to its current name Avion Express, and was acquired in 2010 by French investment company Eyjafjoll SAS, formed by Avion Capital Partners of Switzerland along with strategic investors from industry.
In April 2011, Avion Express took delivery of its first Airbus A320 passenger aircraft, and more aircraft were added during 2012 and 2013, with the fleet now comprising five Airbus A320 and two Airbus A319 based and operating in both the Eastern and Western hemispheres.
