Apr 10, 2013 (newstodate): Icelandair sees a future for its fleet of Boeing 757 aircraft.
In the Group's fleet are now 19 Boeing 757-200 and one Boeing 757-300 passenger aircraft, and the Icelandair Group has now purchased two of the Boeing 757-200 aircraft till now on lease with Icelandair.
The two aircraft have so far been operated on charter flights, but the carrier sees a future for them in the scheduled services as well.
Icelandair also operates four Boeing 747-200 in freighter version.
With the latest acquisitions, the Icelandair Group owns 17 Boeing 757-200 aircraft while the remaining six are on long-term leasing contracts.
The carrier is, however, considering the addition of more Boeing 757-200 aircraft and expects the aircraft type to remain in service for another 10 years.
Icelandair is seeing brisk growth in passengers volumes, up 22 percent, y-o-y, in March 2013, to 145,000 passengers.
