Apr 29, 2013 (newstodate): The Croatian government has decided to put its national carrier Croatia Airlines up for sale.
The country is to join the EU from July 1, 2013, after which the state's repeated effort to keep its ailing airline alive with capital injections and aid packages will become illegal.
Croatia Airlines has started implementing a turn-around restructuring plan but will need significant injections of capital to carry it through to the end.
The hunt for a strategic investor is therefore to start now, with the collapse of the carrier as a threatening option.
The carrier operates a fleet comprising seven airbus A320 Family aircraft and six Bombardier Dash8 Q400 aircraft.
