Apr 11, 2013 (newstodate): In 2012, Copenhagen Airport handled a total of 354,269 tonnes of air cargo, up seven percent y-o-y, trucked and flown combined.
This secured the airport a strong position in the European air cargo market, primarily thanks to its role as a European hub and the main hub for the Scandinavian carrier, SAS.
Thus, 70.4 percent of the total cargo was transfer cargo reflecting the hub-position.
103,079 tonnes were carried in passenger aircraft belly holds, and belly cargo was leading the positive growth with an increase in 2012 by 12 percent, y-o-y.
-The growth in this category is very significant, reflecting the success of our cargo strategy aiming at developing the belly cargo segment in order to support the growth of long-haul routes, says Lars Korup, Copenhagen Airport Key Account Manager.
