Apr 02, 2013 (newstodate): Azerbaijan's freighter airline Silk Way Airlines has decided to boost its fleet with new Boeing freighter aircraft.
The carrier has signed a MoU with Boeing for the acquisition of four Boeing 747-8F freighter aircraft.
If materialized, plans are to take delivery of the first aircraft already in 2014 and have all four freighters in operation by 2017.
Silk Way currently operates three 747-400Fs and two 767-300Fs in scheduled service (mostly through its Silk Way West subsidiary), so adding the four 747-8Fs will effectively double its main-deck freight capacity. Silk Way also has two Il-76TD-90s, which it operates mostly in charter service.
Based at Baku Heydar Aliyev International Airport, Silk Way Airlines now operates a fleet comprising three Boeing 747-400F and two Boeing 767-300F aircraft as well as two Il-76TD-90 freighters.
