Mar 08, 2013 (newstodate): The take-over by Swissport of SAS's Spirit Air Cargo Handling in Scandinavia, now in progress, will again change the game for a long-pending solution of cargo security at the airport.
The issue at stake for more than three years now concerns demands for heightened security on the traffic road from the cargo terminals at the airport's eastern premises to the passenger aircraft at the gates.
The current debate has its focus on who will foot the bill to cover the implementation and operation of the solution in the form of TV-monitoring of the airside transport road.
According to industry sources, the solution would be for the airport to bear the costs of installing the TV monitoring systems, while the cargo terminals should bear the costs for operating the system 24/7.
After the recent move by Spirit away from the cargo area to the terminal directly at the passenger aircraft area, only WFS and Swissport were left in the eastern area.
And with Swissport most probably to close down at the cargo area and moving into the current Spirit Air Cargo Handling terminal, only WFS would be left to cover the expenses.
