Mar 19, 2013 (newstodate): The Turkish carrier Borajet has unveiled plans for launching flights to Armenia.
Effective from April 3, 2013, the carrier will offer flights from Van Ferit Melen Airport to Yerevan Zvartnots Airport with a weekly rotation using ATR 72-500 aircraft.
The carrier is owned by a Turkish businessman living in the USA, and the decision has opened a rift with the government of Turkey's ally Azerbaijan that alleges some Turkish state involvement in the plan.
Armenia and Azerbaijan are in a near-war state over the issue of Nagorno-Karabagh, part of Azerbaijan, annexed by Armenia during a war in the 90'ies.
