Mar 14, 2013 (newstodate): The ACMI market for freighters is quite soft, and this is probably felt by all ACMI providers, says one leading company in the industry.
-We are happily seeing all our 15 Boeing 747 aircraft, passenger and freighter aircraft alike, flying on firm contracts all through 2013, so we do not have any immediate complaints. But the market is soft, and it requires much work to seek new business opportunities, says Baldvin Mar Hermannsson, Air Atlanta Icelandic VP Sales & Marketing.
-Many segments are marked by much excess capacity in the cargo industry. Long-haul aircraft on passenger routes provide an abundance of belly cargo capacity, and with the depressed rates due to strong competition on price and costs, the demand for freighters is decreasing.
-Our target is the long-haul freighter market, and even if the market is not over-all too promising these days we will as always be in a position to take in new Boeing 747-400 aircraft whenever there is an opening and an attractive offer. It is a cyclical business and we have been in both upward and downward slopes before, says Mr Hermannsson.
