Mar 11, 2013 (newstodate): News of the coming take-over by Swissport of the SAS Group's handling companies SGH and Spirit Air Cargo Handling raises the issue of cooperation with their airline customers.
-Lufthansa Cargo is pleased to see that SAS found a strong buyer for its ground handling business. We expact that both companies will need to put quite some efforts into their integration and that it will take a while until we, as their customers, will notice the real impact, says Alexander Kohnen, Lufthansa Cargo Director for the Nordic and Baltic markets.
-On the cargo side, we know Swissport as a handling company from various stations across the world, including Copenhagen, where we are successfully handled by them since December 2012. Lufthansa Cargo's inhouse IT system is already linked up with Swissport's Cargospot Handling System and works smoothly.
-For our stations in Oslo, Stavanger, Bergen and Billund, where we are currently handled by Spirit, we therefore do not foresee any major suprises in the near future.
-For Copenhagen, both companies will need to answer in which terminal they will operate jointly in the future. For us as a customer it is crucial that we are getting involved by Swissport and Spirit at an early stage of their discussions regarding future terminal structures. We wish both companies a smooth transition phase and hope as a customer for a fast service integration, says Mr Kohnen.
