Mar 20, 2013 (newstodate): With the foundation stone in place from March 19, 2013, work has now finally started on construction of a new passenger terminal at Tajikistan's Dushanbe International Airport.
Behind the project as general contractor is the French company VINCI, and French loan investments will contribute 19 out of a total of 39 mio euro in estimated costs of the project, slated for completion by 2014.
The new 11,000 square meters international terminal is designed to handling of more than 5,000 passengers per hour, bringing the annual handling capacity to 1.5 million passengers.
The project was initially contracted to the French company Sofema that, however, proved unable to stick to the plans and deadlines.
Instead, the project was taken over in February 2012 by the French construction group Vinci, while the French state declared its decision to invest further in the project to see it to the end.
The project was originally slated for completion in 2011.
