Mar 06, 2013 (newstodate): Latvia has seen the launch of a new charter and ACMI cargo carrier, Alpha Express Airlines.
The new airline was registered in Latvia in 2012 and has now received its AOC as well as taken delivery of its first aircraft, an ex-Georgian Star International Airbus A300F4-200 freighter.
-The aircraft is currently stationed in Sharjah and is still flying in its old livery prior to re-paint in our colors, says Rolands Ramins, Alpha Express Airlines CEO with a solid aviation background from airBaltic, North Wind Airlines and SmartLynx.
-We expect to grow the fleet by one or two more aircraft in 2013, initially focusing on the cargo industry but not excluding taking up passenger air transportation at a later stage.
-We are now operating on a short-term contract ex-Sharjah, but plans are to move the aircraft into Europe and maybe even Riga where the carrier also has its headquarters.
-Alongside our AOC, all other issues are settled, with aircraft maintenance provided by the Latvian company Qnord's aircraft maintenance subsidiary in Sharjah, says Mr Ramins.
