Mar 05, 2013 (newstodate): Lithuania's new government seems to be moving towards integrating the country's three state-owned airports into one unity.
Under the earlier government, the issue of defining the country's future airport infrastructure was high on the agenda, but repeated efforts at agreeing on a definite legal structure failed.
Till today, the capital airport of Vilnius as well as the airports of Kaunas and Palanga have been managed by an airport general manager, but the decision by Kaunas Airport's general manager Povilas Ogianskis to leave from March 15, 2013, after less than four months in the office has revealed an imminent change in Lithuania's airport setting.
Pending an official announcement on the future construction it remains to be seen whether the government has decided to integrate the three airports as one legal entity in the form of a state-owned PLC and which effect this will have on the management of each of the three airports.
The country's fourth international airport, Siauliai Airport is not comprised by the coming changes, being owned by the Siauliai Municipality and with the runway infrastructure belonging to the Lithuanian Ministry of Defense.
