Mar 19, 2013 (newstodate): The Norwegian market developed very positively for Lufthansa Cargo in 2012.
-We had a very good year in the Norwegian market 2012, with significant increases in both the seafood and the oil & gas industries, says Alexander Kohnen, Lufthansa Cargo Director Nordic & Baltic countries.
-Norway was actually the only Nordic market that was not declining in 2012, and while we have been strong in the oil and gas industries over the years, the seafood exports did see marked increases in volumes for us as well.
-Seafood is basically a low-revenue business, but provided the seafood logistics business is planned carefully and performed meticulously it is indeed worth going for.
-We have obtained a better understanding of these issues in 2012, and with the right network at disposal, close cooperation with shippers and prioritization of the cargo shipments this business has indeed gained in importance for Lufthansa Cargo in Norway.
-Of course, competition is intense in this market as well, more and more flights are coming in and this puts pressure on rates and yields. Still we are rather confident of continued growth in 2013 as we have now gained the confidence of the Norwegian exporters in the seafood industry as well, while sustaining a stable position in other important industry sectors in Norway as well, says Mr Kohnen.
