Mar 20, 2013 (newstodate): Two high-profiled companies in the air cargo business, Lufthansa Cargo and the brokering firm Chapman Freeborn have entered a significant strategic cooperation taking effect from April 1, 2013.
Under the agreement, Lufthansa Cargo will outsource its third-party cargo chartering business activities now performed by its charter agency subsidiary to Chapman Freeborn, while retaining the chartering of Lufthansa Cargo's own freighters for special - e.g. valuables - transports as part of its core business.
Customers will also benefit from the cooperative tie-up on charter contracts, which Lufthansa Cargo does not handle with its own aircraft.
For such transports, Chapman Freeborn with its 35 offices worldwide will be available as partner to customers of Lufthansa Cargo oeffering access to capacity on any size and type of rotary or fixed-wing aircraft.
At the same time, Chapman Freeborn will gain access to the capacity on Lufthansa Cargo's freighters on demand from its customer base and from Lufthansa Cargo's third-party charter customers.
Both parties to the new strategic cooperation are keen to stress their continued neutrality against each other, allowing for unlimited cooperation with other parties according to market and customer demands.
In effect, the cooperation with Chapman Freeborn will allow Lufthansa Cargo to streamline and slim its organization.
