Mar 13, 2013 (newstodate): In Denmark, 2012 was a very difficult year in the airfreight business, according to Lufthansa Cargo.
-Volumes were down in general, the market was characterized by over-capacity, and it was all about price, price and price, says Alexander Kohnen, Lufthansa Cargo Director Nordic and Baltic markets.
-We certainly did well in especially the pharma industry with customers such as Novo and others. But the Danish market was indeed very difficult, and we do not foresee any carrier being able to reap profits. The outlook for Denmark's export airfreight market is bleak in 2013.
-However, for us two factors developed positively in 2012. One was a significant increase by 20 percent in the volumes of e-bookings in the Danish market, now reaching 45 percent. Another was our move from Spirit Air Cargo Handling to Swissport at Copenhagen Airport, benefiting from Swissport's match with Lufthansa Cargo's IT systems and a high quality in services, says Mr Kohnen.
