Mar 11, 2013 (newstodate): The Latvian carrier will become the launch customer for the Bombardier CS300 aircraft in the enlarged version to take up to 160 passengers - a direct competitor to the Airbus A320 and Boeing 737NG series.
In December 2012, the carrier confirmed its order for delivery of 10 CS300 aircraft in addition to options for a further 10 aircraft.
Deliveries are slated to start by Q4, 2015.
The airline first intended to go for the 148-seat version of the CS300, but will now also take in the larger version as the launch customer.
It is not currently known which split between the two version airBaltic has decided for, but news will probably break at a forthcoming Bombardier event in Riga in cooperation with airBaltic, sources say.
