Mar 01, 2013 (newstodate): Iceland may become a logistics center for coming activities in the Arctic region.
With prospects for oil exploration and mineral mining in the Arctic region growing, Iceland may be well poised as the logistics center based on Keflavik Airport and the Icelandair traffic system as well as the maritime services calling at Iceland.
Speaking on a recent conference in Paris, organized by the French-Icelandic Chamber of Commerce, Iceland's president stressed the services by logistics companies Eimskip and Samskip in transporting goods to and from the northern USA and Canada, Greenland, Faroe Islands, Norway, Russia, with Iceland as a hub.
In addition to the maritime services, the importance of Iceland will be further boosted by Icelandair's flights to Anchorage, Alaska and St Petersburg from this spring, comprising scheduled flights to all major countries in the world's northern region.
