Mar 01, 2013 (newstodate): In January 2013, Finnair Cargo saw its export cargo volumes down by 14.6 percent, y-o-y, in its three main Nordic markets.
Combined, the volumes in Finland, Norway and Sweden were 2,811 tonnes in January 2013 compared to 3,293 tonnes in January 2012.
In Finland, volumes were down 6.5 percent in January 2013, to 1.465 tonnes, compared to 1,564 tonnes in January 2012 where volumes also dropped 0.2 percent, y-o-y.
In Norway, volumes dropped by 12.8 percent, y-o-y, to 910 tonnes, while also down 13.5 percent, y-o-y, in January 2012.
In Sweden, volumes were down 38.6 percent, y-o-y, to 436 tonnes, while down 18.2 percent, yo-y, in January 2012.
Industry sources note, however, that Finnair Cargo has turned its focus on volumes to rates, obviously going for higher yields rather than competing on low rates to fill up the aircraft.
