Mar 07, 2013 (newstodate): The construction of a new 65,000 sq m terminal at Norway's Bergen Airport Flesland requires a restructuring of the airport's air cargo infrastructure.
Two buildings housing equipment and staff facilities for Spirit Air Cargo Handling and the freight forwarders, respectively, are to be demolished while the existing cargo terminal on the area will remain basically unchanged at least till 2023.
Intentions are that the freight forwarders will now move into SAS Spirit's cargo terminal.
This, however, requires that SAS' call-center currently located in the terminal building now managed by the US company Sykes agrees to move out to other premises.
Negotiations between the airport and Sykes will be continued on Monday, March 11, aiming at reaching a final solution to the issue.
-The airport is also planning for new facilities for the air cargo community in the Flesland Airport City, and the parties will be invited to contribute to optimal solutions that are both economically and operationally viable, says Alf Sognefest, Bergen Airport Flesland director for the T3 Project.
In 2012 the airport handled a total of 6,747 tonnes of cargo and mail, an increase by 0.5 percent, y-o-y.
