Mar 06, 2013 (newstodate): Over-all, the market situation in 2012 was difficult in the Nordic region, according to Lufthansa Cargo.
-First of all, we had a very demanding year 2012 in the Swedish market, traditionally the single largest airfreight market in the region, where volumes were down by around 20 percent, says Alexander Kohnen, Lufthansa Cargo director for the Nordic and Baltic region.
-The migration by cargo from air to sea was a marked trend in Sweden, and there was a significant stagnation in the country's airfreight industry as a whole.
-Among the major changes for Lufthansa Cargo in Sweden in 2012 was our shift of handling partner from June 1, 2012, to Cargo Center Sweden at Malmo Sturup Airport, followed by a similar change at Gothenburg Landvetter Airport from June 15, 2012, also to Cargo Center Sweden that was already providing us at Stockholm Arlanda Airport. This has ensured a stable and high level of quality in handling.
-Looking cautiously into 2013, we have had a rather good start to the year in the Nordic region, but we don't expect much to change overnight. The Norwegian market is doing fine, Finland is stable, Denmark is a challenge, and Sweden may be recovering during the year, says Mr Kohnen.
