Feb 01, 2012 (newstodate): Uzbekistan Airways reports a sound increase in cargo volumes handled in 2012.
The carrier's volumes totaled 40,000 tonnes, most of which was handled at the country's Navoi Airport that serves as a logistics center for east-west airfreight.
In August 2010, a new cargo terminal with an annual capacity of handling up to 100,000 tonnes was commissioned at Navoi International Airport, and in cooperation with Uzbekistan Airways, Korean Air Cargo now operates over 80 flights per week through Navoi Airport to destinations including Seoul, Milan, Brussels, Zaragoza, Frankfurt, Bangkok, Delhi, Mumbai, Dacca and Istanbul.
The cargo terminal is now handling some 300 tonnes of cargo per day.
In 2008 the airport still handled a mere 26 tonnes of cargo, but in 2009 the volumes had reached 19,944 tonnes, reaching 49,509 tonnes of cargo in 2010 and around 60,000 tonnes in 2011.
