Feb 06, 2013 (newstodate): Russia's Novosibirsk Tolmachevo Airport is seeking a role as a center for technical landings and maintenance for aircraft en-route on trans-polar flights between the USA and Asia.
The airport also hopes to attract interest in its capabilities for cargo handling and technical stops for freighters between Europe and Southeast Asia, offering capacity of handling up to 50 freighter rotations a week.
In 2012, the airport handled a total of 28,028 tonnes of cargo, up 29 percent, y-o-y, and estimates to grow this volume to more than 35,000 tonnes in 2013.
In the infrastructure of Novosibirsk Tolmachevo Airport are two runways at 3,600 as well as two cargo terminals.
Among cargo airlines currently operating through the airport are Air China Cargo, Cargolux, Air China Cargo, Yangtze River Express as well as Aeroflot, AirBridgeCargo and Polet Airlines.
