Feb 21, 2013 (newstodate): The introduction by Russian carriers of western-built aircraft has had a marked effect on the over-all fuel consumption.
Thus, the country's airlines have seen their combined fuel consumption almost halved during the period 2000-2011, or down by a factor 1.86.
In service with Russian carriers by the end of 2012 were 153 Russian-built and 503 western-manufactured passenger aircraft, 196 Russian and 98 western regional aircraft, as well as 121 Russian-built and 16 western-built freighters.
In addition, 33 corporate jet aircraft were operated by Russian companies.
Western-built aircraft thus carried 93 percent of the country's passengers in 2012, as well as 85 percent of the country's air cargo volumes.
