Feb 13, 2013 (newstodate): Latvia's Riga Airport is still benefiting significantly from the ISAF traffic carrying goods for the forces in Afghanistan via the airport.
In January 2013, the airport's cargo volumes thus increased by 155.1 percent, y-o-y, to a total of 2,390 tonnes.
The totals included 1,728 tonnes of cargo, increasing 291 percent, y-o-y, and 662 tonnes of mail, up 40 percent, y-o-y.
The ISAF air transport services to and from Afghanistan via Riga Airport are provided by the US carriers National Air Cargo and Kallitta Air with three daily Boeing 747 freighter rotations.
The ISAF operations started in April 2012, so a correct picture of the factual year-on-year development in cargo will only emerge in statistics from May 2013.
