Feb 12, 2013 (newstodate): Plans for establishing a new Lithuanian airline, Air Lituanica are moving forward, step by step.
-We have now applied for our AOC, expected to be granted within the coming two months, says a project spokesman.
-With the AOC and a commercial license on hand, we are then ready to move fast towards seeing a launch of flights after April.
-We have decided to await the granting of our own AOC and license rather than starting up with chartered aircraft under a foreign AOC, so any details on the commercial plans of Air Lituanica will be released only after this milestone has been achieved, the spokesman says.
However, the prime mover behind the project Air Lituanica, the mayor of Vilnius has presented his own visions time and again.
According to the mayor, plans are to launch flights from the airports of Vilnius, Kaunas and Palanga to destinations including Amsterdam, Brussels, Kiev, London, and Moscow.
From 2014, Air Lituanica would then expand the route net with flights to Stockholm, Munich, Berlin, St Petersburg, Hamburg and Tbilisi, adding flights to Istanbul from 2015.
The carrier will supposedly build a fleet of Embraer aircraft, but no details on this and other issues are currently available.
49 percent of stake will reportedly be held by a "strategic investor", indicating cooperation with another airline.
