Feb 26, 2013 (newstodate): The Lithuanian charter airline and ACMI provider Aurela is flying in strong headwinds in 2013.
The carrier has had its license suspended by the country's civil aviation agency, citing doubts over the carrier's financial ability to meet requirements on air safety.
A deadline has been set by the end of May 2013 for the airline to carry through a strengthening of its capital base to secure sustained operations, after which the suspension of the commercial license will be reconsidered.
Aurela went through another difficult time when its original owner pulled out by the end of 2010 forcing Aurela to seek new investors, which turned out to be a Cyprus-based company, Gold'nsky Leasing.
The carrier operates two Boeing 737-300 aircraft.
