Feb 21, 2013 (newstodate): The Icelandic LCC WOW Air is in the process of application to obtain an own AOC, expected to be on hand during the latter part of 2013.
According to Icelandic press reports, WOW Air will then consider launching flights to the USA from 2014 and, further down the line, to Asian destinations as well.
WOW Air currently operates two Airbus A320 aircraft, but the fleet will be expanded to four aircraft from summer 2013, all leased from its airline partner Avion Capital Partners, based in Switzerland.
Launching flights on June 1, 2012, WOW Air was established by Skuli Mogensen and Matthias Imsland, former Iceland Express CEO, and in October 2012, WOW Air took over its long-established competitor Iceland Express through an outright acquisition.
Iceland Express launched Transatlantic flights from Iceland to New York from June 1, 2010, later adding flights to Chicago and Boston as well.
