Feb 06, 2013 (newstodate): Vagar Airport, on the Faroe Islands, jumped into 2013 with a convincing growth in airfreight volumes.
A total of 35.1 tonnes of cargo was handled at the airport, an increase by 36.6 percent, y-o-y.
On the other hand, mail volumes dipped 13.4 percent, y-o-y, to 18.1 tonnes in January 2013.
The airport's passenger volumes were also up 6.6 percent, y-o-y, to 14,278 in the first month of the year.
The picture of growth is, however, impacted by the fact that Atlantic Airways introduced its Airbus A319 on the flights only from March 28, 2012, so the performance of the airport will only show correctly in the statistics from April 2013.
In 2012, a total of 399 tonnes of cargo was handled at the airport - an increase by 53.2 percent, y-o-y, while mail volumes declined by 16.7 percent, to 212 tonnes.
