Feb 19, 2013 (newstodate): Kyrgyzstan has decided on an ambitious plan for a thorough modernization of the country's aviation infrastructure.
Under the plan, the country will secure the modernization of all 11 airport, including four international airports.
Financing of the modernization of the airports will partly come from surplus generated by the country's international leading airport, Manas Airport as well as Karakol International Airport.
Starting from this year already, reconstruction works will be launched at Isfana Airport and Batken Airport, while work is already progressing for construction of a new airport at Jalalabad in cooperation with US investors.
Kyrgyzstan today has 17 registered airlines of which four airlines are offering passenger traffic: Kyrgyzstan Airlines with 15 aircraft including one Airbus A320 aircraft, Air Bishkek Airline with two Airbus A320 and one Boeing 737, Avia Traffic operating three Boeing 737 and and two BAe 146, and the newcomer Sky Bishkek operating one SAAB 340.
Also operating in Kyrgyz registration are 11 freighter aircraft with cargo carriers.
