Dec 09, 2013 (newstodate): West Atlantic, the world's largest operator of ATP freighters, is also building up its fleet of jet aircraft.
In the fleet now are five converted Boeing 737 freighters - four Boeing 737-300 and one Boeing 737-400 - and two more Boeing freighters are due for delivery before the end of this year.
-Both aircraft are highly versatile, with the -400 taking an extra pallet which makes sense as long as customers can fill the capacity. On the other hand, there is still a significant price gap between the two aircraft, so we would only take in new Boeing 737-400 aircraft as required by out customers, says Russell Ladkin, West Atlantic Director, Sales & Operations.
-In the fleet are also 43 ATP freighter, 33 of which are currently flying. We have launched an extensive one million USD-per-aircraft upgrading program focusing on an entirely new glass cockpit and airnav features allowing us to operate the aircraft below Cat II conditions that have so far been the limit.
-With the upgrading program, the ATP freighter is virtually a new aircraft with some 25 years of lifetime ahead, says Mr Ladkin
