Dec 20, 2013 (newstodate): SAS Cargo is not first out regarding the implementation of e-freight in the Nordic region - but the issue remains on the agenda for 2014.
-We were actually early in place regarding e-freight as we launched our project, EuroeXpress in 2009 based on the implementation of full use of the e-AWB at all on-line destinations. The time was not favorable, however, says Anders Hundahl, SAS Cargo Director IT.
-The project was hit hard by the developing financial and economic crisis, and was shelved again. Since then, e-freight has admittedly had a low priority at SAS Cargo.
-Now is the time to lift the issue again, and starting from early 2014 we will conduct a mapping of the status at each on-line station before pushing the button. This mapping will comprise stations, handling agents, terminals and all other parties in the chain, to ensure e-freight capabilities at each point.
-The e-AWB is the most important part for us as this is where we can apply the most pressure. In other aspects, we rely on cooperation with other parties - and everything has to be in place before the full benefits can be reaped.
-As said, we are to start up the process from the beginning of 2014, and once the process is completed we will bring the news to the market, says Mr Hundahl.
