Dec 19, 2013 (newstodate): During this autumn, rumors have flourished about an imminent acquisition by Etihad of a stake in the ailing Polish carrier LOT.
While this has at least not yet materialized, the two parties will indeed meet soon - but in a Polish court.
Etihad is suing LOT over alleged lack of payments for preparation of a restructuring plan for LOT as ordered by the Polish carrier.
The Polish airline refutes the claim, demanding instead that Etihad must pay for the plan eventually preferred over that produced by Etihad.
According to Polish media, LOT was overcharged by Etihad taking advantage of the fact that the plan was needed urgently to fight off the airline's imminent crash-landing - and LOT was therefore forced to go elsewhere for a rescue plan in time.
It still remains to be seen where LOT will turn in 2014 to ally itself to a strategic partner capable of securing the future survival of the Polish national carrier.
