Dec 20, 2013 (newstodate): Another Polish airport is hoping for growth and development: Zielona Gora Babimost Airport, in the country's south-western region.
Equipped with one 2,500m Cat 1 runway and ILS/DME, the former military air force base is pinning its strategy on two segments: leisure traffic, and air cargo.
The airport's hopes are based on the fact that there are no environmental or noise restraints on the use of the airport that is located at the crossroads of major transportation routes east-west and north-south, including both highway and railroad traffic.
The future for air cargo growth is also spurred by development of the near-by Lubusz Industrial and Technological Park and the creation of Lubusz Airpark as a business venture to be realized in three phases until fully completed by 2026.
So far, however, the airport is seeing little air traffic with Sprint Air operating domestic flights to Warsaw.
