Dec 10, 2013 (newstodate): Following on the divorce between the two former partners Air Lituanica and Estonian Air, the formed has been quick to bring its economic claims against its opponent to the court.
Air Lituanica has filed its case with the Stockholm Court of Arbitration claiming 2.1 mio euro from Estonian Air due to unlawful abrogation of obligations.
Estonian Air is expected shortly to follow up with a similar court case.
-Because we were forced to terminate this relationship prematurely, we
will be making substantial claims for damages against Air Lituanica, says Ilona Eskelinen, Estonian Air Communications Manager.
-Together with the outstanding amounts owed by Air Lituanica, these claims will significantly exceed the amounts held by us. But we cannot disclose the sum as we have not submitted the claim yet, says Ms Eskelinen.
The two companies split their cooperation on November 28, 2013, but while Estonian Air still operates the routes from Vilnius to Amsterdam and Berlin, the carrier will pull out from the route to Berlin with the last flight on December 15, 2013, and from the route to Amsterdam from January 6, 2014.
In June 2013 Air Lituanica signed an agreement extending till the end of 2015 to wet-lease an Embraer E170 aircraft from Estonian Air.
In addition to aircraft lease, Estonian Air was also to provide a range of commercial services like sales of tickets on point-to-point and connecting flights, revenue management, interline and code-share agreements.
