Dec 16, 2013 (newstodate): Today will see the opening of the Latvian carrier's airBaltic new route to the Gulf region.
In a code-share agreement with Etihad, airBaltic will offer four weekly rotations on the route connecting Riga and Abu Dhabi operated with an Airbus A319 aircraft.
airBaltic has wet-leased the Airbus A319 aircraft on an ACMI contract with the Czech carrier CSA.
The flight schedules will be coordinated to connect to onward flights by the two carriers at each end of the line indicating a new cooperation between the two airlines.
This is, however, not the first attempt by airBaltic to hook up to the Gulf region; the carrier first introduced own non-stop scheduled seasonal flights from Riga to Dubai in 2006, but pulled out again in 2009.
